Origin are giving away Syndicate!

An oldie, but a goodie, this is one blast from the past I'm glad they've dug up.

Finally a game worth playing! Geesh. For awhile I was thinking they ran out of games to make free.

If they dig out Powermonger or Populous 2, especially with an enabled multiplayer mode, I'm there.

Carcassonne is free on the Amazon Appstore today, presuming you don't have it already.

I'm having a hard time coming up with the right strategy in that game and the stupid tutorial crashes on page 4 or so.

Go for the fields. Every time I win it's because I had the biggest field. It's a risky strategy but it's the only one I know (I'm not that good at Carcassonne).
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

I find balance is important. Try to predict where the most cities are going to be and farm the fields around there. Trying to build large cities is rewarding, but also a big risk, so its just as profitable to close off and cities or roads and get your meeple back as soon as possible.

The cloisters, again, can be rewarding, I almost never play a cloister without placing a meeple on it.

For what its worth, I always try to keep one piece in hand in order for cheap plays (2 point road, 2 part castle etc).

Thanks for the tips guys! This can almost become as deep as chess if you really get into it.

There are a lot of different strategies that can unfold, so yes, it can be pretty deep as games go. Whilst I find its better to play against this people this isn't a blast at the ai. The difference is that most players tend to like completing systems and patterns, so it's a little easier for everyone to plan in advance for possible ways the board can grow. The ai gets to a certain stage in the game and starts throwing all the tiles out to the edge of the game field, rather than play something that might even tangentially benefit another player. Frankly, at the end of a game with human players, the board always looks better.

For what its worth, the board game is a regular favourite in our household.

Red Alert 2 is not complete without Yuri's revenge.
